NFL fans are in for a real treat tonight as Thursday Night Football will feature a matchup between two of the most star-studded teams in the NFL.
Baker Mayfield and the Tampa Bay Buccanneers will travel to Mercedez-Benz Stadium to take on Kirk Cousins and the Atlanta Falcons. And it will be a pivotal matchup for both teams.
Mayfield and the Buccaneers have been among the most surprising teams in the NFL. Many fans weren’t sure what to expect from Tampa Bay with Mayfield under center. His last two stops with the Cleveland Browns and Carolina Panthers have been less than desirable.
But coming to Tampa Bay in 2023 has been a fresh start for Mayfield. Mayfield helped lead the Buccaneers to a Wild Card Game win over the Philadelphia Eagles. He followed that up by leading the Buccaneers to a 2-0 start to this season.
Mayfield has always played with a bit of a chip on his shoulder. To be honest, it has kind of hindered his career to some extent. But that same attitude has led Tampa Bay to their hot start. The wins have also been against quality opponents. The Eagles, Detroit Lions, and Washington Commanders are all formidable opponents around the league.
The Atlanta Falcons were also a team that many people were skeptical about coming into the season. They had talented players in Bijan Robinson, Kyle Pitts, and Drake London. But their new starting quarterback Kirk Cousins has proven to be inconsistent throughout his veteran career.
The Falcons have started the season off 1-2 on the season. And with the New Orleans Saints and Buccaneers quickly on the rise this season, they can ill afford to fall too deep down in the standings. That’s why a win against a division opponent would be a major boost for them on Thursday Night.
So whether you are rooting for a clear favorite or hoping for a miracle by the underdog, the most important thing to remember is that you must be in it to win it.
