Week 7 of the college football season is officially here! With the season officially at the midway point, teams are kicking things into extra high gear as bowl season and the College Football Playoff will be here in no time. Every win and loss becomes more important with each passing week. One of the key matchups in Week 7 will be the Texas Longhorns taking on the Oklahoma Sooners in a matchup between two heavyweight programs.
The Texas Longhorns look primed to capture their first national championship since the Vince Young era. One of the main reasons for that has been the play of their starting quarterback, Arch Manning. Manning has been Texas’ best player when he is on the field. Despite not starting in the first two games for the offense, Manning has generated 905 yards of offense along with nine touchdowns on the year. This will be an important game for the Longhorns as this is their last game against a ranked opponent during the regular season. So losing could end up being crucial for their College Football playoff rankings.
The Sooners are probably out of the playoff picture for this season. But they can start building upon their resume to be in a better position for a top Bowl game. Currently sitting at 20th in the country, a win over top-seeded Texas could catapult them in the rankings. This will also be a good test for Oklahoma going forward as four of their next six games are against ranked opponents. One of the key players to watch for the Sooners will be their receiver, Deion Burks. Burks leads the Sooners with 201 receiving yards and 3 touchdowns this season.
So whether you are rooting for a clear favorite or hoping for a miracle by the underdog, the most important thing to remember is that you must be in it to win it.
