This week’s edition of Thursday Night Football will feature a matchup between two of the most star-studded teams in the NFL.
The Tampa Bay Buccanneers will travel to Mercedez-Benz Stadium to take on the Atlanta Falcons. And with every win being detrimental in the race to the postseason, both teams will be looking to come out victorious.
Former number-one overall pick Baker Mayfield and the Buccaneers came into this season and shocked the NFL. Given Baker’s recent history, many people had their doubts about Tampa Bay with the former Heisman-winner under center. His last two stops with the Cleveland Browns and Carolina Panthers have been less than desirable.
But coming to Tampa Bay has been a breath of fresh air for Mayfield. He helped lead the Buccaneers to a Wild Card Game win over the Philadelphia Eagles last season. And this season he has the Bucs sitting at 3-1 sitting atop the NFC South.

In the past, many shunned Mayfield for his brash attitude and approach to the game. Fortunately for Tampa Bay, that attitude has become contagious and has helped lead them to their hot start. The wins have also been against quality opponents. The Philadelphia Eagles, Detroit Lions, and Washington Commanders have all proven to be worth opponents in 2024.
People were also unsure of what to expect from the Atlanta Falcons coming into this season. They had talented players like Darnell Mooney, Justin Simmons, and Matthew Judon. But their new starting quarterback, Kirk Cousins, has had a shaky track record throughout his long-tenured career.
The Falcons have started the season off 2-2. And with the NFC South proving to be competitive this year, Atlanta can’t afford to lose its footing in the standings this early in the season. That’s why a win against a division opponent is so important for them on Thursday Night.
So whether you are rooting for a clear favorite or hoping for a miracle by the underdog, the most important thing to remember is that you must be in it to win it.
